Magruder, W. H. Nathaniel (William Hezekiah Nathaniel), 1890-1984
Variant namesWilliam Hezekiah Nathaniel Magruder was born in San Antonio, Tex., on June 6, 1890. Magruder spent most of his childhood in New Orleans and Baton Rouge and in 1906 enrolled at Louisiana State University to study chemical engineering. He began work in the sugar refining industry in 1918, eventually becoming operations manager of the Central Hershey plant in Cuba in 1933. At Central Hershey Magruder was in charge of over 1200 employees and had a number of problematic encounters with labor organizations. He retired to Sarasota, Fla., in 1940, and then moved to Baton Rouge after his wife's death in 1963. Magruder died September 14, 1984.
