Frederick Lykes Stringer was born in Brooksville, Florida, in 1974 to Dr. Sheldon Stringer and Margaret Elizabeth Lykes Stringer. He earned a degree in law from the University of Michigan in 1900 and practiced law in Brooksville from 1904 to 1940. He served in the Florida state House of Representatives from 1909 to 1912 and in the state Senate from 1913 to 1915. He also served as Hernando County judge from 1927 to 1941.
