An Ohio native, Albert Curtis moved to Texas in 1933, eventually settling in San Antonio.

While working as a civilian employee at San Antonio military bases, Curtis devoted much of his time to researching and writing, particularly on San Antonio, the Texas Revolution, and the Alamo.
