Carter, Alice Draper, 1883-1970.
Civic worker (Barnard College, A.B., 1905), Carter served on the executive board of the World Committee of the Young Women's Christian Association, 1917-1922, and on the board of the YWCA of the U.S.A., 1924-1933. She was also active in the League of Women Voters of New York State and during World War II was a director of United China Relief and Russian War Relief. From 1946 to 1955, Carter was president of the Play Schools Association of New York City, which developed educational programs for handicapped children in hospitals and housing developments. From 1945 until 1965 she was chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Harlem Hospital School of Nursing. She married Edward Carter in 1908; they had six children.
