Westwego Canal and Terminal Company, Inc.
The Westwego Canal was the center of the shrimping and boat-building industries in Westwego, Louisiana, in the early 20th century. Flooding in 1927 caused the Army Corp of Engineers to attempt to minimize flood paths into New Orleans. After expansion of the nearby Harvey Canal, eventually the Westwego locks were condemned, the Westwego Canal became impassible, and was closed permanently in 1954.
