H. R. Tickell
H.R. Tickell served as a midshipman on the battleships HMS Resolution and Empress of India with the English Channel squadron, January-August 1896. He then transferred to the crew of a new cruiser, HMS Talbot, commissioned at Devonport on 15 September 1896. The Talbot served on the West Indies Station, where in addition to cruising around the islands, it visited Halifax, New York and Montreal, at the last of which it joined Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee celebrations of June 1897.
