Raymond Burgeur Johnson (1885-1972) graduated from Rutgers University in 1906 and received a master's degree in English from Harvard University in 1926. He spent most of his life working in the field of education, and was ordained to the Unitarian ministry in 1943 at the age of 58. He served pastorates in Hingham and Scituate, Massachusetts, and was the director of the Department of Ministry of the American Unitarian Association from 1951 to 1957, also serving as chairman of its Curriculum Committee. In 1948, he published the book What is Happening in Religious Education.
