Walters, Thorstina Jackson
Variant namesBorn in Pembina County, N.D., daughter of Thorleifur Jóakimson Jackson and Gudrun Jonsdottir. The family moved to Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. A graduate of Wesley College, she began writing and lecturing in 1924. After extensive work in Iceland in 1926, she was awarded the Knight Cross by the King of Denmark and Iceland. Wed Emile Walters in 1928. From 1933 to 1942, she was a social worker for New York City Dept. of Welfare. Retired in 1933 due to multiple sclerosis. Continued writing until her death at Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
