Albert L. Hoffman began his career with the Red Cross Mission in France in May 1917 and was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the Signal Corps, U.S.A. in October 1917. He worked in the Military Intelligence Division until the end of World War I. Between the wars he worked in a brokerage firm. In 1940 Hoffman was appointed to a Selective Service Board in New York City. He was again commissioned in the Army and served in various observer and attache positions during the remainder of World War II.
