Paul Roberts Stoney (b. 1919, Nashville, Tenn.-d. Jan. 11, 1998), U.S. Air Force officer, enlisted as an aviation cadet in 1941 after graduating from university. He received his commission and pilot wings in the Army Air Corps the following year. From 1942 to 1944, he was assigned to a newly-formed Instrument Flying Evaluation Group, and later joined the 78th Air Base Group, an overseas training center for the Airways and Air Communications Service (AACS). Following World War II, he served as assistant for plans, 7th AACS Wing, in Tokyo, Japan, and for two years was deputy director of operations, 1810th AACS Group, in Hawaii, responsible for all communications facilities in the Southern Pacific area. During the 1950s, he was commander, 1932nd AACS Squadron in Labrador, and was assigned to Air Force HQ, working on projects for new Air Force communications equipment. In the 1960s, General Stoney served as chief of Communications-Electronics for Strategic Air Command; then vice commander and commander, Air Force Communications Service. He retired in 1973.
