Adams, Annie Strawn, 1865-1940.

In her book, A Look at Boulder (1981, p. 156), Phyllis Smith notes that the Better Boulder Party was formed in about 1900, uniting groups that favored prohibition and temperance. The party won most of the city council seats in the 1907 election, and the Boulder saloons were closed.

A Republican, Adams served on the Boulder City Council, and was elected Judge of the Police Court of Boulder, an office he held until his death. Adams was a devout member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Boulder for 41 years, holding many offices there including that of Sunday School superintendent. He was a Mason, on the executive committee of the Boulder Y.M.C. A., resident of the Boulder County Abstract of Title Company, and otherwise active in the community.

Judge Guy A. Adams was born on 15 Sept. 1857 in Leon, IA., and died 21 Sept. 1933 in Boulder, CO. After graduating from Waynesburg College, PA., he moved to Colorado, living first in Blackhawk, then Pueblo, and finally in Boulder. In 1892 he married Anna Strawn of Lincoln, KS., formerly of Waynesburg. Practicing law in Boulder for many years, he became one of the leading attorneys of the district.

Annie (Anna) S. Adams, the wife of Guy A. Adams, evidently compiled these four scrapbooks. The couple had twin sons, Wilbur Wolf and Victor Kirk, who were noted athletes in football and basketball while at State Prep School and the University of Colorado in Boulder. Victor became a doctor; Wilbur moved east after receiving a law degree from the University.
