Forsdyke was commissioned as a Veterinary Surgeon with the rank of Lieutenant by the British Army on 14 May 1879. At his retirement (ca. 1910) he held the rank of Colonel. Forsdyke served in the Afghan War (1880-1881); took part in the operations of the Bozder Field Force (1881); served during operations in Chitral (1895); served on the N.W. Frontier of India (1897-1998); served in the South African War (1899-1902).
