McDowell, Anne Smith Clay, 1837-1917.
Anne Clay was the daughter of Henry Clay, Jr., who was considered the most promising of the famous Kentucky statesman's five sons. He graduated second in his class from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, then was killed at the battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican-American War. Anne married her cousin, Henry Clay McDowell, May 21, 1857.
