Francis Albert "Al" Wilke enrolled as a freshman at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., in 1916 and attended the university sporadically until 1920. He was responsible for introducing the first full feature page in the Reveille, the LSU student newspaper. He later worked as a copy editor for the New Orleans Times-picayune and various Arizona publications.
