Doctor and merchant in Adrian, Mich.

Born in Middlebury, Vt., Aug. 3, 1802; grad. from Middlebury College, ca. 1819; sud. medicine; came to Maumee, Ohio & was partner with his uncle, Dr. Horatio Conant, 1824; entered merchandising partnership with Gen. J.E. Hunt, 1825; came to Adrian, Mich. & opened the first store; 1829 built a large block-house; ran the Mich. Exchange 1838-41; was justice of the peace for three terms; assisted in projecting & building the Erie & Kalamazoo R.R.; went to California, 1853-1954; practiced electropathy, 1854-1867; died in Adrian, Dec. 12, 1867.
