Hybrid seed developer, entrepreneur and radio personality. Henry Field was born near Shenandoah, Iowa to Solomon E. and Celestia Field. He worked briefly as a county surveyor and teacher before turning to hybrid seed development and sales. He founded the Henry Field Seed Company, at one time one of the largest seed businesses in the country. He also established the radio station KFNF to increase the visibility of his business and to serve farmers through the delivery of programs of agricultural interest. In 1932 he ran an unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Senate as the Republican candidate.
