A native of Kemah, Texas, Everett Andrew Hanson, Jr. (1921-2006), served with the U.S. Army’s 305th Engineer Battalion and in France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, and Austria during World War II. He supervised estimates on the work and manpower necessary to complete bridges and navigate obstacles. Additionally, Hanson helped determine the best routes for infantry units to enter difficult terrain as well as assessed water supplies and road conditions. For his service, Hanson received the Normandy Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal along with four Bronze Stars.
