Clift, Joseph, 1736-1828
Joseph Clift was born on June 22, 1736, the son of Deacon William Clift (d. 1750) and his wife Judith (d. 1782); he had 6 surviving siblings. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a captain of the local militia, and accompanied a regiment to Rhode Island. He and his wife, Mary, had at least one son, also named Joseph. He died in 1828.
