Private (PVT) Carl W. Morris was drafted into the United States Army on 12 Nov 1941. He was sent to basic training at Camp Croft, South Carolina. Morris was then assigned to the 3rd Battalion, Headquarters, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On 6 Jun 1944, Morris, along with the division, boarded a ship and sailed to the coast of France where he participated in the D-Day invasion at Utah Beach until the end of World War II.
