Woods Hole Golf Club organized by Henry H. Fay and others in 1898; land was leased from the Fay family until 1916 when the club purchased it outright. A clubhouse was built in the early 1920s and with extensive renovations is still in use. In 1929 the club founded a caddy camp which became one of the best in the U.S. At first the boys attending were housed in tents but later cabins were built. The club operated sporadically over the years but was closed in 1953. In the early 1950s club membership declined but the local members reached out to include new members beyond the community's summer residents with many social activities and golf tournaments open to non-members. Membership grew and money came in. There has been a long waiting list for membership for many years.
