Donald Maclean was born in 1939 , and enrolled in Engineering at the University of Glasgow , Scotland, in 1957 . Maclean took classes in Chemistry, Mathematics, Natural Philosophy, and Engineering Drawing in his first year. He then went on to study Mathematics II, Applied mechanics I, Heat Engines I, Electrical Engineering I and Engineering Drawing II. In his third year Maclean studied Higher Natural Philosophy and Electrical Engineering II. For his final year at university he took Electrical Engineering III, Electronic Engineering, Engineering Design, Advanced Mathematics and Nuclear Engineering. He graduated with a BSc in Electrical Engineering in 1962 .
