Ellis, James William, 1840-1917.
James William Ellis was born in Mason County, Kentucky, November 4, 1840. About 1854 the family moved to Hillsboro, Fountain County, Indiana. In August 1862 he mustered into Company H, 72nd Indiana Volunteers -- a part of what was known as the "Wilder Lightening Brigade" which served in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. He mustered out of the army at Nashville, Tennessee, June 26, 1865. Ellis died in Hillsboro, October 10, 1917.
