Local division of the Sons of Temperance; parent organization established Sep. 29, 1842 in New York City as a fraternal and benevolent association that espoused total abstinance; organized into National Division with jurisdiction over North America, Grand Divisions with jurisdiction over states or provinces, and Subordinate Divisions with local jurisdictions. The Montauk Division was a subdivision of the Grand Division of Eastern New-York.
