The U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation's (USANC) Office on Studies was created in 1970 in response to the organizational restructuring of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF). The Advisory Committee on Studies worked in cooperation with the LWF's new Commission on and Department of Studies to implement the Commission's program in the U.S. The Commission's program was divided into project areas which included: the life and work of the churches faced by new challenges; interconfessional dialogue; multi-dimensional strategies for peace and human rights, and the encounter with religions and ideologies.
In 1977, USANC was reorganized as Lutheran World Ministries (LWM) and responsibilities of the USANC Office of Studies were transferred to the LWM's Office on Studies.
