Hide Profile

In September 1987 the Kent Institute of Art and Design (KIAD) was formed by the amalgamation of the Canterbury School of Architecture, the Canterbury School of Art and well-established art colleges in Maidstone and Rochester. The Principal of the Medway College of Art and Design, Peter Williams became the Director. The Kent Institute of Art and Design then became one of the leading specialist institutions of art, design and architecture education in the UK, providing foundation courses, degrees and postgraduate studies. In 1996 Vaughan Grylls became Director of the Kent Institute of Art and Design, and in 2005 assisted in the merger of the institute with the Surrey Institute of Art and Design. The Kent Institute of Art and Design then ceased to exist, and became part of the University College for the Creative Arts in 2005.
