Organized as the College Classroom Teachers' Association of the Texas State Teachers' Association in November 1948, the Texas Association of College Teachers was reorganized and separated from the Texas State Teachers' Association in 1956. It is composed of local chapters located in state-supported universities and colleges and helps develop programs to attain high personal standards of teaching, scholarship and research. The Texas Tech Chapter is one of the largest.
