Mrs. Lindley taught school for twenty-six years across the southwest. She moved to Hattiesburg with her husband in the 1970s, where she writes freelance columns for the Hattiesburg American. She is the daughter of Erle Johnston.

Erle Johnston lived in Grenada, Mississippi. He worked for several Mississippi newspapers before purchasing the Scott County Times in 1942. Mr. Johnston served as the executive director of the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission from 1963 to 1968.
