Ingle was employed by the North Carolina Department of Conservation and Development in the summer of 1941, the Raleigh Granite Company of Raleigh (August 1941 - February 1942), next he was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority as a Junior Inspector of Construction at Douglas Dam in Tennessee. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Corps. (September 1942 - January 1946).
