Jay Williams was born on May 31, 1914 in Buffalo, New York. Before he became a professional writer in 1945, Mr. Williams appeared in vaudeville shows and night clubs and was a press agent for the Hollywood Theater Alliance. His first books was published in 1943 and after returning from World War II, he committed himself full-time to writing. He published over 60 children's and young adult books after 1943.
