Elisha Rockwood (1778-1858), the son of Elisha and Abigail (Stone) Rockwood, was born in Chesterfield, N.H., on 9 May 1778. He was graduated from Dartmouth College in 1802, taught at Plymouth Academy from 1802 to 1804, and was a tutor at Dartmouth from 1804 to 1806. On 28 October 1808, Rockwood was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church of Westborough, Mass., and remained there until his dismissal on 11 March 1835. He was installed as pastor of the Congregational Church at Swanzey, N.H., on 16 November 1836 and remained there until his death on 19 June 1858.
Rockwood married, first, Susannah Brigham Parkman (1781-1836), of Westborough, daughter of Breck Parkman (1748/9-1825). He married, second, Emily Wilder Herrick ( - ) of Keene, N.H.
