Thompson, Richard H. (Richard Horner), 1926-

Richard Horner Thompson was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He was born in 1926 and enlisted in the Army in November 1944. During the 1950s, he was stationed in Japan and also attended courses at the U.S. Army Infantry School and Fort Lee, Virginia. In the 1960s, he was involved with logistics management. He worked in supply management at the U.S. Army Inventory Control Center (AICC), Vietnam (1970); commanded the Defense Logistics Service Center (DLSC) as a brigadier general (1971-1973); established and commanded the Defense Property Disposal Service (DPDS) (1972-1973); and served in other logistics operations until 1984. In 1984, he was promoted to general and commanded the U.S. Army Materiel Command from June 1984 to April 1987.
