Kathleen Amelia Riley was born in Florence, South Carolina, on June 27, 1915. After graduating from Furman University, Riley received her medical degree from the Medical College of the State of South Carolina in 1941. She practiced dermatology in Charleston for more than 30 years, retiring in 1981. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Riley was a professor of Dermatology and the former acting chair of the Department of Dermatology at MUSC. She was vice-president of the Southeastern Dermatological Association, president of the S.C. Dermatology Association, and served on the Executive Committee of the Advisory Board of the American Academy of Dermatology. She also served on a number of civil and social organizations. In 1977 she was named S.C. Woman of the Year by the Professional and Business Women's Association of South Carolina. She died in Charleston on August 12, 1998.
