Wesley McCune was born on June 6, 1916 in Kansas City, Missouri. He received his B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1937, and attended law school at the University of Colorado in 1938. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1939, and went on to work as a reporter for Newsweek magazine from 1940 to 1942. He also served in the U.S. Merchant Marine from 1942 to 1945. After the war, McCune returned to work as a reporter for Time magazine, 1945-1946. He then served as a reporter for Kiplingers' Changing Times from 1946 to 1948. In 1948, McCune entered federal service, working as an Executive Assistant to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Charles F. Brannan, 1948 to 1953. From 1953 to 1956, McCune served as Assistant to the Deputy Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and from 1956 to 1962 he was Director of Public Relations for the National Farmers Union. Beginning in 1962, he served as President of Group Research, Inc. Throughout his professional career, McCune wrote several different books, including: The Farm Bloc, 1943; Who's Behind Our Farm Policy, 1956; and Ezra Taft Benson: Man with a Mission, 1958.
