Joel Edward Ferris (1874-1960) was first President of the Board of Directors for Friends of the Library of Washington State University, 1938-1948, and served on the Board until his death in 1960. Ferris was Chairman of the Spokane and Eastern Division of the Seattle-First National Bank, Spokane, President of the Eastern Washington Historical Society and had received an honorary degree of doctor of laws from Whitman College and Washington State University.
