John Taylor Selden (b. March 25, 1893, Richmond, Va.-d. May 30, 1964), U.S. Marine Corps officer, enlisted as a private in 1915 and received a commission in 1918. During World War I he served aboard the USS Huntington; in the early 1920s was chief of police in Haiti; in 1927 served with the 6th Regiment in Shanghai; and in the early 1930s was assigned to the American Legation in Peking. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when World War II began, and then commanded the 5th Marines and served as chief of staff, 1st Marine Division, in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was assigned to Korea early in 1952 as commanding general, 1st Marine Division. When he retired in 1955 he was commander of the Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton, California.
