Mathias P. Harpin (known as Matt Harpin) was born in Rhode Island and lived there over 50 years before moving to Connecticut when he was in his 60s; journalist, author, radio personality, historian, poet, and lecturer; founder and publisher of the Rhode Island Pilot, the Pawtuxet Valley Almanac, and was instrumental in the formation of the Western Rhode Island Historical Society, the Coventry Historical Society, as well as several historical societies in eastern Connecticut; author of several books on the history of the Pawtuxet Valley; when living in Connecticut published Harpin's Connecticut Almanac and wrote articles and short stories for local eastern Connecticut newspapers and magazines.
