Mabel Freeman La Far (ca. 1879-1947) was the wife of S. Branch La Far. She was an amateur historian, chiefly interested in genealogy and church history. She was one of the members of the committee in Savannah who promoted the FERA (Federal Emergency Relief Administration) workers of the WPA (Works Progress Administration) in indexing the Savannah newspapers in the library of the Georgia Historical Society, abstracts of wills and marriage records in Chatham County, Georgia, etc. With Caroline Price Wilson, she abstracted and compiled Abstracts of Wills, Chatham County, Georgia, 1773-1817, published in 1936. She copies and indexed the early records of the First Baptist Church, Savannah, Georgia, typed and bound in three volumes. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of the Savannah Historical Research Association.
