The Educational Affairs Department distributed educational aids developed by Ford Motor Company and responded to special requests from educators. The department was also responsible for the overall supervision of school programs such as the Industrial Arts Award. The Industrial Arts Award began in 1946 under the sponsorship of Scholastic Magazine and later in 1949, Ford Motor Company took over sponsorship of the program. Students submitted industrial-themed projects in one of several categories including: wood, metal, drawing, printing, model making, plastics, machine shop, and radio-electronics. Students in seventh through twelvth grades entered the contest, as well as students in vocational, trade, industrial, and technical schools. Information on the contest was supplied to teachers and students primarily through Shop Craft, a special publication published by Scholastic Magazine.
