Mary Colgan Romine and Myra Colgan Hornbuckle were first cousins of Harry S. Truman. Their mother, Emily Truman Colgan, was the sister of Harry S. Truman's father, John Anderson Truman. Harry Truman lived with the Colgan family briefly in 1905 when he was working in Kansas City, and remained close to his cousins Mary and Myra throughout his life. She was born Mary Virgil Colgan on July 7, 1885 in Jackson County, Missouri. On July 6, 1917 she married Robert Talbot Romine. On December 7, 1920, their son Roy Talbot Romine was born. In January 1949, Mary attended the Presidential Inauguration of her first cousin, Harry S. Truman, in Washington, D.C.
