Texas Civil War veteran, civic leader, businessman, and state representative. Born May 14, 1834 near Frederick, Maryland. Graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., with B.A. in 1858. Entered law profession. Moved to Huntsville, Texas in 1858, then to Waxahachie, Texas in 1859. Organized Company E of 12th Texas Cavalry in 1861. Became Adjutant General of W. H. Parsons' Brigade. Twice wounded. Became first mayor of Waxahachie in 1872. Opened a bank there with W. H. Ferris in 1868. Later became Citizen's National Bank of Waxahachie. Elected to State Senate in 1882. Married Willis Neel in 1865. Had two children. Died May 12, 1909 in Waxahachie.
