Wendell D. Rimer was born on August 14, 1918 in Mishawaka, Indiana. He enlisted in the army in August 1940 and soon transferred to Fort Beauregard in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was sent to Europe in December 1941 where he served first with the U.S. Army Claims Commission and later with the War Crimes Investigating Commission.
