The P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational society, was established on January 21, 1869 at Iowa Wesleyan University, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Chapter D, the first of five Grand Forks, N.D. chapters of P.E.O., was established in 1913. Chapter D charter members included Ada Bek, Chrissie Budge, Lillian Budge, Mable French, Margaret Gillette, Eva Libby, Carrie Simpson, Leila Sturtevant and Gertrude Sturtevant.
