Professor Francis. J. Tschan instigated and served as first president of the Retired Staff Club of The Pennsylvania State College in 1947. From its inception it was open to retired faculty, staff, and their spouses. Shortly after the Pennsylvania State College changed its name to the Pennsylvania State University in 1953, the club changed its name to the Retired Staff Club of the Pennsylvania State University; it was renamed The Retired Faculty/Staff Club of The Pennsylvania State University in 1975. It represents interests of retirees before the legislature, and is officially recognized as the organization representing Penn State retirees by the Penn State Office of Human Resources. In 1996, the Retired Faculty/Staff Club joined the Big Eleven University Retirees Association.
