Elizabeth McTeer (1936-1988) was born in South Carolina, the daughter of Jack C. and Elizabeth H. McTeer. She attended Hardeeville High School in Hardeeville, South Carolina until around 1950, when her family moved to Savannah, Georgia. Her family lived at 203 E. Washington Avenue and was a member of Bull Street Baptist Church. Elizabeth attended Washington Avenue Junior High School and later Savannah high School. She was very active in high school and graduated in 1954. After graduation, Elizabeth attended Armstrong Junior College, Mercer University, and the University of Georgia. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority at Mercer and UGA. She graduated from UGA in 1958 with a Bachelor's degree in journalism. After her college graduation, Elizabeth returned home to Savannah, where she taught at Meyers Junior High for several years. On July 25, 1964, she married John R. Brunner (b. 1930). The couple moved from Savannah around 1967.
