Internationally known ballet teacher, choreographer, dancer and artistic director of Tampa Ballet (1984-1987), Tampa/Colo. Ballet (1987-1990), Colo. Ballet (1991-2005). Born (1943) in Balitmore, Md., Fredmann has danced with Pennsylvania Ballet, the Maryland Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. Internationally, he was Maestro di Ballo for Teatro Comunale (Maggio Musicale Florentino) in Florence, Italy; company teacher for London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet); ballet master and principal dancer of Dortmund Ballet in West Germany; and principal dancer of Scapino Ballet in Holland. He has received the Denver Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts (1996), Dance Magazine Award (1999), Bonfils-Stanton Award for Arts and Humanities (1999). In 2005, he was decorated by the Emperor of Japan with the Order of the Rising Sun, Golden Rays with Rosette for his contribution to the development of ballet in Japan and for facilitating an increased cultural exchange between Japan and the United States. In 2003, he founded and continues to director the annual young dancer's competition known as the Japan Grand Prix. Fredmann is currently deputy artistic director of the Kirov Academy of Ballet of Washington, D.C.
