Stephen L. Chipman (1864-1945) served in various leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Utah Legislature, and the Brigham Young University Board of Trustees.

Stephen L. Chipman was born March 18, 1864 in American Fork, Utah, and studied at the Brigham Young Academy. He married Sina Neilsen in 1885. They had seven children together. Between 1885 and 1887 he served a mission to the Southern States Mission.

Stephen L. Chipman was sustained as a member of the Brigham Young University Board of Trustees in April 1897. In 1901, Chipman was called to serve as a the first stake president of the newly formed Alpine Stake in American Fork. Chipman served in various local government positions in the American Fork area until he became a member of the Utah State Legislature in 1903. In 1939 he was called as president of the Salt Lake Temple. In 1940 he married Annie Maddick Jamison. He died in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 31, 1945.
