Jacoby, Walter, 1929-.
Born 1929 in Orange, New Jersey, Walter Jacoby began his affiliation with the YMCA first as a camper, then as a member of camp staff during his high school and college years. After college Jacoby served for two years as a lieutenant in the United States Army, with ten months service in Korea. Jacoby and his family, arrived in Lebanon in 1967. The aftermath of the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War heightened the need for Jacoby's training of refugee workers. Also while in Lebanon he was instrumental in the establishment of a new YMCA Center in Beirut which had the effect of greatly increasing membership.

He graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1952 with a B.A. in Psychology. After college Jacoby served for two years as a lieutenant in the United States Army, with ten months service in Korea.
Walter Jacoby and his family, (wife Joan, son Russell, and daughters Susan, Gail, and Nancy) arrived in Lebanon in 1967.
