Anne C. Stouffer Foundation.

The Anne C. Stouffer Foundation was established in 1967 by Anne Forsyth of Winston-Salem, N.C., to promote the integration of preparatory schools in the South. Over its eight years of operation, the Foundation helped 142 students, chiefly African Americans, gain admission to preparatory schools in North Carolina, Virginia, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, and other southern states. A driving force in the Foundation's work was novelist John Ehle, who was active in recruiting and placing students. By 1975, the Foundation's goal of prepartory school integration was largely achieved, and the program was halted.
