Jeremiah La Touche Cuyler was born June 4, 1768 in New York, N.Y. and died May 7, 1839 in Savannah, Georgia. He was a U.S. District Court Judge for the district of Georgia. He received a recess appointment from James Monroe on June 12, 1821 to a seat vacated by William Davies. He was confirmed by the Senate on January 10, 1822, and received commission on January 10, 1822. He worked in private practice in Savannah, Georgia from 1789-1821 and was a Georgia state senator from Chatham County. Thomas Usher Pulaski Charlton was the oldest son of Thomas and Lucy Charlton, and the grandfather of Judge Charlton was born near Camden, South Carolina in 1780. In 1801 he was called to the bar of the Eastern Judical Circuit. In the same year he was elected a member of the Georgia Legislature. In 1804 he became the attorney general and in 1808 he became the judge of the Eastern Ciruit. In later years he was elected and served six years as mayor of Savannah. He married Emily Walter and they had two sons, Thomas Jackson Charlton and Robert Milledge Charlton. In Savannah, Charlton Street was named in honor of Thomas U. P. Charlton. John Eppinger was the father of James Eppinger (b. 1790), a banker and lawyer who served in the Georgia House of Representatives (1837-1841).
