Born in Sale, Vic., on 16 Aug. 1895, Pooley worked as a clerk in Surrey Hills, Vic.; enlisted on 23 Apr. 1917 (no. 38525); served as a gunner and driver with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade; and was repatriated to Australia on 3 July 1919. He married in 1936, had no children, and died on 22 Apr. 1971 in Stirling, S. Aust.
